I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
Even good coffee can be awful when you have a bad cold.
January 18, 2017
Today I was relieved to discover my taste buds could once again properly process the flavor of coffee and report to my brain a sense of gustatory satisfaction.
For the past four+ days I've had a whopper of a cold, but being hopelessly addicted to C8H10N4O2, I still require a daily intake of coffee. Now, I am almost always drinking excellent coffee, but what I've discovered is that aroma really is vital. When you take that away, it effects every other aspect: acidity, flavor, finish, complexity, etc. It all just gets confused and the end result is the brain (or at least my brain) thinks it is drinking something purchased at a gas station.
There might be other factors of course. All kinds of gross things are probably going on in the mouth when you have a bad cold and an excessive amount of mucus is on the move... perhaps excess bacteria... who knows. It really doesn't matter because all I wanted to say was that my coffee tasted great today! It was a natural Yirgacheffe (named by the town or origin) from the Kore region of Ethiopoia roast date 1/10/2017.
