A sad day for Starwars fans
December 27, 2016
Well my first blog post at michaelsrogerson.com is going to be a sad one. I just learned that Carrie Fisher, who suffered a heart attack two days ago while travelling back to the US from London, never regained consciousness and this morning has passed away.
I saw Starwars on opening day in 1977 as a five year old, and it would not at all be an exaggeration to claim that the course of my life was dramatically affected by that event. I can honestly say I was in love with Princess Leia long before the 'golden bikini'! :-) She was a great actress and had a phenomenal wit.
I hope Rian Johnson finds a fitting way to honor her memory in the next Starwars film (or perhaps the one following, in which case the responsibility would rest on the shoulders of Colin Travorrow and Derek Connolly). According to the Episode VIII wikipedia entry, edited just today mere hours after her passing, she had already finished all of her principle photography for the next film. It is somewhat doubtful they would do a rewrite of the current film in production but obviously unless she was already written out (as was Harrison Ford in the previous film), the final installment will need to be written to accommodate the death of General Leia Organa Solo.
I was planning on buying her latest book 'The Princess Diarist' but now that I've become aware that Fisher actually read the book herself for the audio version, I might opt for that format. Raise a glass of blue milk with me to... the Emperial Senator who made hair buns hip... Jake Blue's crazy Ex... The girl in the golden two piece... Sally's Albright's friend Marie... the one, the only, Carrie Frances Fisher!!
